September 12, 2014 -----Mt. Vernon, New York On Saturday, September 20, a group of young Mt. Vernon girls were treated to a very special event, Healthy Living, Inside and Out, sponsored by Deborah-Huldah Ministries of Mt. Vernon. The event was held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 411 South 8th Avenue, Mt. Vernon, where Pastor Peter Wilson has generously donated space for the event for the past three years.

This was the third annual Tea for Girls where girls ages 6-12 are treated to a day honoring them, called The Princess Within. This year’s theme focused on a variety of healthy living tips — including oral care, personal care and exercise. The girls left with helpful souvenirs to carry on the theme at home.

The day included a visit by the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures mobile dental van where girls received free screenings and oral care education. The community was also invited to participate in the screenings (with appropriate parental consent forms).

Another key component of the day was learning about charity and giving back. The girls brought socks to be donated to a national charity called Sox Warm Hearts. The socks are donated to the underserved in our communities and the girls learned a valuable lesson about the importance of helping others.
